Lamayuru Alchi Trek

Day 01: Drive Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru – Wanla – Tarchit (156 km)
Today you have amazing and spectacular view of mountains, confluence of Zanskar and Indus River; beautiful and charming villages; enchanting and magnificent view of moon land escape before Lamayuru. Morning after breakfast, drive on Leh-Srinagar highway to Lamayuru, en-route visit Alchi, situated at a distance of 68 Km from Leh. Alchi monastery was built by great Lama Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo (The great translator) 1000 years ago and is considered to be the most famous and largest among the entire monastery built by him. After the visit, continue drive to Lamayuru which is 58km from Alchi. Lamayuru monastery was constructed by Arahat Nimagung in between 10th and 11th century. History says that in the 11th century the Mahasidha Naropa visited this place and the cave where he resided and meditated is still to be seen inside the monastery. After the visit, drive back till small monastery on the bank of Yapola River. Leaving behind highway, you enter in awesome Yapola valley. Continue drive along the road as far as wanla. If time permits, visit Wanla monastery. Pass the village and continue drive for two kilometers to reach at campsite in Tarchit. Good and nice campsite near Yapola River. Overnight at camp. (3300m)

Day 02: Trek Tarchit – Urtsi (4/5 hrs)
Morning after breakfast, follow the road along the river's left bank of Yapola river. Arrive at the small village Phanjilla (3410 m) from where you follow the left side valley along a small stream for around an hour then gently climb up along ancient clear route as far as charming Ursi village. You walk a little further to reach at campsite. (3610m)

Day 03: Trek Urtsi – Tar-la (4970m) - Tar (7/8 hrs)
The trail from the camp is clear but challenging as you have to trek up and down a sometimes before reaching the Tar-la (5250 m). Your hard labor will be rewarded with the splendid view of imposing landscape and magnificent snow clad mountains around. Easy descent down, but sometimes difficult due to a mass of fallen rocks strewn about. Continue down in the valley for 3-4 hrs to reach at campsite in the exquisite Tar village surrounded by enormous towering stunning mountains. The location of village is like a Turquoise in a box. Overnight at camp. (3520m)

Day 04 : Trek Tar - Hipti Phu (5/6hrs)
From Tar, the path steep ascend in Zigzag Trail up to the top of Hipti La 4200m.From the top of the pass, enjoy wonderful and enchanting panoramic view of Sham region's wonderful mountains and rapids of Indus River. Today, on the way, it is possible to see the Blue Sheep (the wild animals). After ascending and descending over the ridges; finally you reach at camping site near the spring water. The village which we see on the other side below in the valley is Hipti village. Overnight at camp in Hipti Phu. (3900m)

Day 05 : Trek Hipti - Mangyu (5/6 hrs)
After the breakfast, Right from the camp, you start ascends to the ridge on the right side of camp then again contour around the ridge. You will enjoy awe inspiring view of surrounding daunting mountains and panoramic landscape. Cross the pass Mangyu-la 4100m. From the top, take pleasure of panoramic view of Peak Mountains wrapped in Snow and beautiful far flung view of mangyu village. Possible to see some animals (Yaks) across here. Cross the pass, continue easy steep descend down in the valley till small river. Continue along downstream river, eventually you approach at Mangyu. Overnight at camp around campfire. (3350m)

Day 06: Trek Mangyu – Gera then drive Gera – Alchi – Leh (73 km)
Morning, after breakfast at camp, continue short trek for 5km down in the valley as far as Indus river. Cross the Indus over long wooden brige then drive to Leh via visiting exquisite Alchi monastery. Cross Indus before Saspol village then follow the road that leads you to Alchi village. Visit Alchi monastery, well preserved ancient monastery, founded by Great Lama Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo 1000 years. Later continue drive to Leh, still 68 km. Arrive Leh by afternoon. Overnight at hotel in Leh.
